Power BI Migration from Teradata, SAP BOBJ, and Tableau

Consolidating reporting tools so business teams can work from a clearer analytics layer

01

A Fortune 500 industrial MRO distributor engaged Taller across two long-running workstreams: SAP Commerce engineering behind the transactional channel and BI and data engineering behind enterprise reporting.

02

The client was migrating its data warehouse from Teradata to Snowflake, and used the moment to also consolidate reporting from SAP BusinessObjects and Tableau onto Power BI — aiming to cut reporting costs and standardize how data was analyzed. Consolidations like this often fail because the new platform simply inherits the old reports instead of rethinking the decisions those reports were meant to support.

03

Taller led the Power BI migration end to end: rebuilding the Tableau reports in Power BI, running the Power BI admin group, using Microsoft Fabric for analytics and data integration, building proof-of-concept dashboards, and training internal users. The key discipline was treating each old report as a question to be answered rather than a file to be copied, rebuilding it in Power BI, then confirming with the original business owner that it still answered the right question. Running the admin group properly was what kept the whole thing from sliding into unmanaged, ad hoc reporting later on.

04

The migration reduced reporting costs and improved the reporting infrastructure, aligned to the new Snowflake data warehouse.
