A global digital-payments company engaged Taller to build the service communication layer and unified onboarding platform that underpinned its GraphQL checkout modernization, and to contribute engineers to the GraphQL layer itself.

The company’s checkout systems carried the heavy cost of legacy technology: older service connections that added at least 700 milliseconds of network delay at the worst end of the range. The fix was to introduce GraphQL, a modern query layer that acts as a single, efficient go-between connecting the customer-facing experience to the back-end systems. But that coordinating layer only worked if the foundations beneath it were modern too, which meant implementing a fast network edge and a consolidated onboarding surface.

Taller delivered two of the foundational pieces the GraphQL modernization built on. The first was a high-performance service-to-service communication layer (gRPC on Java, Spring Boot, and Protocol Buffers, using HTTP/2 and streaming) that handled thousands of simultaneous requests while cutting latency and infrastructure cost. The second was the unified onboarding platform, consolidating more than thirty separate customer sign-up flows into one adaptable, localizable experience on a modern Java/Spring Boot stack. Around these, Taller engineers also contributed directly to the GraphQL layer itself, the heaviest GraphQL footprint in Taller’s client portfolio.

GraphQL coverage grew from three products to fifty-two in two years, release cadence moved from a weekly to a minute scale, and hundreds of experiments ran simultaneously across roughly two hundred countries. These outcomes belonged to the company’s multi-year orchestration strategy, built on Taller’s communication layer, onboarding consolidation, and GraphQL contributor capacity.
